# Key Concepts

> Understand how AIde processes DeltaMath assignments and the hierarchy of problems

## Assignment Hierarchy

AIde organizes DeltaMath problems into a three-level structure:

### 1. Assignment (Top Level)

The **[assignment](#1-assignment-top-level)** is the single container that teachers create and share with students. This is what you see as one item in your DeltaMath dashboard. It contains multiple [sub-assignments](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level).

**Key Points:**

* One [assignment](#1-assignment-top-level) can contain multiple different topics
* Teachers can mix any grade levels or subjects within a single [assignment](#1-assignment-top-level)

### 2. Sub-Assignment (Topic Level)

Each [assignment](#1-assignment-top-level) contains multiple **[sub-assignments](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level)**. Each [sub-assignment](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level) focuses on a single specific topic, all the questions within it are about the same concept. However, an [assignment](#1-assignment-top-level) can include any mix of different [sub-assignments](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level), each covering its own topic.

**Examples of Sub-Assignments:**

* "Solving Linear Equations"
* "Graphing Quadratic Functions"
* "Area of Triangles"
* "Simplifying Radical Expressions"

**Key Points:**

* Each [sub-assignment](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level) covers one focused math topic
* An [assignment](#1-assignment-top-level) can have any number of [sub-assignments](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level)
* Topics can vary widely in difficulty and grade level within the same [assignment](#1-assignment-top-level)
* **This is what counts toward your weekly limits**

### 3. Problems (Question Level)

Each [sub-assignment](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level) contains individual **[problems](#3-problems-question-level)** – the actual questions you need to solve.

**Key Points:**

* DeltaMath's default is **5 [problems](#3-problems-question-level) per [sub-assignment](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level)**
* Teachers can customize this number (some may assign 3, 10, or more)
* Each [problem](#3-problems-question-level) has randomly generated numbers but follows the same concept
* [Problems](#3-problems-question-level) within a [sub-assignment](#2-sub-assignment-topic-level) will always be the same type/topic

## How AIde Processes Your Work

By default, AIde automatically completes **all sub-assignments** within a parent assignment when you paste a URL. However, Plus plan users can enable **[Single Assignment Mode](/limits#single-assignment-mode)** to complete only the specific sub-assignment they paste.

    AIde analyzes the assignment URL to identify all sub-assignments contained within it. In [Single Assignment Mode](/limits#single-assignment-mode) (Plus only), this step is skipped—only the pasted sub-assignment is processed.

    AIde works through each sub-assignment individually, completing all problems within that topic before moving to the next. In [Single Assignment Mode](/limits#single-assignment-mode), only the single pasted sub-assignment is completed.

    For each problem within a sub-assignment, AIde reads the question, calculates the solution, and submits the answer.

    AIde tracks completion at both the sub-assignment level (for your usage limits) and individual problem level (for accuracy monitoring).

### Single Assignment Mode (Plus Plan Only)

**[Single Assignment Mode](/limits#single-assignment-mode)** allows you to complete only the specific sub-assignment URL you paste, without AIde automatically discovering and solving other sub-assignments in the parent assignment.

**Default Behavior:**

* Paste any DeltaMath URL → AIde completes the entire assignment (all sub-assignments)

**[Single Assignment Mode](/limits#single-assignment-mode):**

* Paste a sub-assignment URL → AIde completes only that specific sub-assignment
* Other sub-assignments in the parent assignment are ignored
* Gives you precise control over what gets completed
* Helps conserve weekly limits when you only need help with specific topics

## Usage Limits Explained

AIde tracks your usage using **dual counting** to prevent abuse while giving you flexibility:

### Free Plan Limits

* **5 sub-assignments per week** OR **20 individual problems per week**
* **Whichever limit you hit first stops your usage**

### Plus Plan Limits

* **50 sub-assignments per week** OR **300 individual problems per week**
* **Whichever limit you hit first stops your usage**

## Why Dual Counting?

This system prevents abuse while accommodating different assignment structures:

**Scenario 1: Many Small Sub-Assignments**

* Assignment with 10 sub-assignments, 3 problems each (30 total problems)
* Free users: Stopped at 5 sub-assignments (15 problems completed)
* Prevents gaming the system with many tiny sub-assignments

**Scenario 2: Few Large Sub-Assignments**

* Assignment with 3 sub-assignments, 10 problems each (30 total problems)
* Free users: Stopped at 20 individual problems (completed \~2 sub-assignments)
* Prevents abuse through assignments with unusually high problem counts

## Practical Examples

    This level of usage requires the Plus plan's higher limits.

## Understanding Your Usage

When you submit an assignment to AIde, we'll show you:

* How many sub-assignments it contains
* Estimated number of total problems
* How this will impact your weekly limits
* Whether you have enough remaining usage to complete it

This transparency helps you make informed decisions about which assignments to process with AIde and which to complete manually.
